Post 100

July 12, 2012

This my 100th wordpress post. Well, what have I achieved in 100 posts over 2 years?

It started out as a blog to record myself learning to play golf and using hypnosis to do so. It was amazing when I had that zone feeling brought on by hypnosis, to just know where you were going to place the golf ball no matter how difficult the shot and to just do it.  Unfortunately that all went by the wayside as I got really busy with clients and pushed my practice to the next level.

My new and improved website was the focus last year, 2011, and it has paid off hands down. It was designed to inform visitors about my work and to include all the hypnosis and EFT I do. An e-commerce function was included so I could sell my hypnosis cd and mp3 audios online.  I produced 9 audios in 2011 which was a much bigger feat than I imagined, what with planning, recording, music mixing, graphic cover designs and the copy-writing involved. I am delighted with them and they are selling which is so encouraging. The blog has helped.

This year, 2012, has seen me move to another level with 6 more audios including the start of a real hypnosis weight loss programme for people serious about losing weight and wanting to do it both effectively and cheaply. It took six months to prepare those audios and now the results are coming in, and they are good. Adding personalised EFT consultations to them strengthens the results and removes blocks to progress.

While I love the patient contact here in my clinics, I can see the potential to reach them and lots of others online and am excited by this. More helpful audios and videos are in the pipeline. More Skype consultations, too. I do want this to be a truly global yet very personal practice, one that can reach people in need anywhere they have a computer.

As I write my articles for magazines so I put them on my blog, as I think of something helpful I put it here on my blog or on my hypnosis cd and mp3 Facebook page. They all link up now so it is becoming easier. Roll on the next 100 wordpress posts!

Christmas down under

November 20, 2011

Since we have had Maree here I thought I might tell you about Christmas time ‘down under’ (I was brought up in the North Island of NZ and moved to Queensland in Oz in my early 30’s) I have been in England 7 years, just long enough to put up with the cold weather, well, at least until the festive decorations come down!

Now, if you were to drill straight down through the earth from here in Herts, you would probably come out in Dunedin or Christchurch in New Zealand, and while it would be exactly half way around the world, summer time, and12 hours further into the day, you wouldn’t be standing upside down. Isn’t it amazing how wonderful gravity is and how the whole universe works.

So, yes, it is summer time over there now. The school year is coming to a close with exams, parent interviews, end of year reports, school plays, and all the hustle and bustle of planning summer holidays, christmas presents and everything all at once. Schools finish mid December and the next school year begins early February.

One of the first holiday jobs was to go off with Dad into the countryside to find a tree branch that could become a Christmas tree.  The lovely fir trees you have for Christmas trees here do not grow in those warmer climates. All we got were plain, often scraggy, pine trees, but we knew no better because everyone had similar, if they didn’t have a fake ‘shop’ one. The pine smell was nice though and the tall branch was secured in an old bucket and decorated. We had no concept of a white Christmas, we had never ever even seen or touched snow!

Naturally the Christmas presents we liked were bikes and outdoor stuff for the summer holidays, fun things to do in the swimming pool or at the beach, kites, model planes that you made and went out and used, remote control stuff that you took out onto the front lawn and driveway, or down onto the sand at the beach. Of course books, movies and computer games are really popular, too, and because school is out for 6 whole weeks presents can be fully enjoyed all of the holidays

We didn’t stand on ceremony on Christmas day. It went like this… wake up, open a present left by your pillow, usually a book. (left to keep you entertained while Mum and Dad got to stay asleep until at least 6am) Then, all up and off to the Christmas tree to open the presents with breakfast somewhere in amongst that. It’s likely grandparents had stayed the night to allow them to join the fun, but if not then we all had to wait around for them to front up before we started. It was far better when they stayed over.

After breakfast, depending on your point of view it was off to church or the beach. If the latter it was a good opportunity to try out some of the new pressies and have some fun in the warm water. Often anyone coming for Christmas lunch might come along, too.

In Queensland preparations for lunch were minimal; everyone brought something. We usually had cold meat, and interesting salads laid out on the breakfast bar and we helped ourselves, most often still in our swimwear, and ate it out under the pergola. The weather was too hot for much else.  However, sometimes we’d make a fuss, dress up summery, use our nice table and sit down properly under the ceiling fan. Although we liked to have Christmas pudding and icecream we usually felt stuffed full afterwards!

The kids would then be ready for a fun swim in the backyard pool, the adults happy to chat, or do the jigsaw puzzle. Some sort of outdoors game often happened later in the afternoon; we had a badminton net up. The evening meal would be a bbq, the kids having great fun in and out of the water ‘til late.

A fab Christmas followed by summer holidays, often camping at the beach if you weren’t already there.  A fitting way to finish the year!

Enjoy your Christmas and know I am here if you need help with new years resolutions such as stopping smoking, weight loss, sports improvements, help with worry, confidence, and the like.

My soothing hypnotic CDs and mp3’s are worth checking out for Christmas presents, they offer real help for confidence, sleeping and healing. Find out more on www.marilyntuck.co.uk, or just call and ask 07962 811907.

Someone said, ‘Do you treat that, too?’

June 14, 2011

After that comment I thought I would let you know the other sorts of things I treat. Those other sorts of things that people want help with and seek out a therapist for various reasons.  Some have had lots of tests and the Doctor says there is nothing there, nothing to worry about but they have still got the symptoms and want to get better.

One such person was Clare (name changed for confidentiality) who had had a miscarriage and had not been able to get pregnant again. The Doctor said all is ok, but that wasn’t helping her to get back in a cycle, nor her sense of loss and tears at having lost a baby, nor her feelings of failure, or her jealousy at seeing other people pregnant, nor the counting off the months and thinking how pregnant she would be now if she had not lost it.  Women in this state need help. They need relaxation to sort their system out, get it back in sync, and reassurance that all really is ok. Clare was grieving, and needed help to say the things she needed to say about, and to, her lost child. We talked it through and she found the love and forgiveness she needed. The soothing tapping of EFT (emotional freedom technique) helped us here. At home she will use the relaxation hypnotherapy audios I have done for her for a previous condition and I hope she soon conceives

Another person was Janet, who only uses complementary medicine. She has a weight issue which is wrapped around household obsessions and her family. There are many emotional issues tied up here and we are unravelling them with great care and safety. I have a number of clients like Janet, who have obsessions, or worries, about negative thoughts, routines, food and the like. They benefit in numerous ways as we progress, including gaining more confidence and self belief.

I not only listen, as a counsellor or psychotherapist might, but I am proactive too. Having trained in CBT, EFT, NLP and energy therapy, as well as Hypnosis I am able to teach people really helpful techniques they can use. As they help themselves they progress faster and feel better quicker.

Apart from relationship, IBS, anxiety issues, help to get jobs, driving tests, flying phobias, and smokers who want to quit, there have been numerous children and teenagers this last couple of weeks. Bed wetting and nail biting issues, study for exams, confidence, and sports techniques that need to be mastered. It is delightful to see the smiles on their faces when they experience hypnotherapy. They love it.

So, you see there are many differing ways hypnotherapy and EFT can help. It is fascinating to see people change for the better without drugs, just using a bit of help  to access their own resources. If you relate to any of these do phone for a chat . 07962 811907 and look at my website.

Do you worry?

April 16, 2011

Last month I talked about anxieties and how they can turn into panic attacks. This resonated with quite a number of people. At the other end of the anxiety scale is worrying.

People who are worriers worry about their school, their job, their kids, their parents, their past and their future. They think ‘what if this happens’ and ‘what if that happens’ and all sorts of other ‘what if’s’.  Often they lack confidence and decision making skills.

Recently a girl came who loves riding but since she’d had a fall she was worrying unnecessarily. What if she was riding and something frightened him, what if she was on her own, what if she had another fall. She was an experienced rider, she knew the horse had the loveliest temperament and had never bolted before. She knew that at the time it was just an unusual circumstance, but she couldn’t help it, she was worrying. She wasn’t happy riding anymore and was having to think of excuses why she wasn’t going out. Her passion for riding had been replaced with worry, fear and lack of confidence. She was thinking that she should sell her lovely horse.

Golfers worry too. They make a duff shot on a hole, miss the ball completely, or it goes somewhere it shouldn’t, and they feel acutely embarrassed and fed up with themselves. Next thing they start worrying whether they will do it again and sure enough they do!  It can become a self fulfilling prophesy. If it continues then over time they lose their confidence and their enjoyment of the game and consider giving it up.

Exam times are a classic worry time. What if I am late, what if I haven’t studied enough, what if I run out of time, what if I don’t pass, what if ….

Worry can spiral, it can seem irrational but unstoppable. Worriers know well enough that they shouldn’t be worrying but people telling them to relax just makes it worse. Some give in and say ‘I am a born worrier”

So, if this sounds like you, what do you do about it?  Well, its no point continuing to worry that’s for sure, or burying your head in the sand. It won’t get better that way.

Seek some objective help. Family and friends can try but don’t have the objectiveness, nor the skills. Find an experienced person who can work with you to bring things back into perspective, to help let the tenseness go, and not just a listener either. You want someone who you can talk to confidentially, learn from, and you want value for time and money. If you need such a person perhaps I can help. My first 20 minutes is free for you to decide if my way seems right. If it is then after the hour and a half you could leave feeling very relaxed and positive about your choice. It may not take very long to sort you out at all!

Some nice recent successes

March 26, 2011

I am delighted to see people coming in having made such delightful changes and periodically like to report on these. Maybe it will help someone else who is considering coming to see me.

Some people spend a lot of unnecessary time worrying. One such man came to see me because it was getting out of hand. He has been paranoid about his teenage son going out at night. So bad that the whole family is on edge. He couldn’t sleep and was even sitting in the car in the middle of the night just in case the boy rang and needed a lift home. He came into his third and last session with a big smile on his face. Not only is he more relaxed, rational, and trusting of the son but he had been in a work meeting that morning and comfortably put his point forward which he has never have done previously.

Just this week a man returned after a year. He’s a middle aged city businessman who had been consuming too much alcohol and had put on way too much weight. He had 2 sessions last April and I hadn’t heard back from him. He was looking really good having lost over a stone and a half. This was due to the cut back on the wine, and less pizzas. He was just coming back, as I often recommend, for a one session boost to keep him on track.

Teachers suffer lots of stress which can bring on IBS. Hypnotherapy is recognised as a good treatment for IBS. Since January, and over 5 sessions, I have been seeing a caring head teacher with little time to herself. Like all my clients she is getting a very personalised service and has recordings to listen to between sessions. I was delighted to hear this week that despite her increased work demands her stomach has settled down and she has had 2 weeks where she hasn’t been in pain or suffered the crippling IBS cramps she has had for years.  This is good news for us to build on.

Another lady this week was pleased to let me know her weight is leaving at long last. We have had about 3 sessions over 5 weeks.  She has stopped biting her nails and was thrilled to show me them growing. She has dropped off a pile of worrying about her grownup kids, and the scales are starting to show that what we are doing is all working. She was buzzing and it was so good to see.

And talking about buzzing I worked with EFT to help shift some tinnitus this week. It was quite bizarre the way it worked. While it was his very first session with me, and all new to him, I am hopeful we may be able to make more progress next time.

Everyone is different and so we fine tune it between us as we go.

Anxiety problems

March 21, 2011

Approximately 80% of people I see come with anxiety of one form or another. Anything from presentation anxiety to driving and flying anxieties, and then to deep rooted worries from maybe sexual abuse, bereavements, relationship issues or a myriad of others.

Sleeplessness, night time teeth grinding, tenseness, snappiness, or withdrawal can be a direct result of anxiety or worry.

If you have acute anxiety, it becomes a panic attack and you will know what I mean. You are in a certain situation and then all of a sudden your palms get sweaty, your heart starts pounding, your chest feels tight, maybe your breathing becomes shallow. You tense up, a knot develops in your stomach, or butterflies. Maybe you feel nauseous, have trouble thinking clearly or speaking legibly. Most sufferers just want to run and hide. This is not nice.

In most cases as one symptom is felt the next one is anticipated, and then the next. This self monitoring makes the symptoms develop more. The expectation is there, they will happen.  And the worst thing about this is that it happens more frequently and you have no control over it. This can be very frightening and certainly saps energy, and self confidence.

Many withdraw, avoid situations, so they don’t feel embarrassed in front of others.

Women can get this way, especially when they feel self conscious about their weight, and often weight issues go right back to old anxieties. And I know men can get anxious when it comes to work presentations and they often find they cannot progress in their jobs until they deal with it.

Children can get like this, too, at exam times, and often as a result of bullying or verbal abuse, or just pressure to meet their parents’ expectations.

The trick is to break the pattern in a safe and helpful way, and it can be done quite easily if one just asks for the right, objective help to do so. And the nicest thing is that when these old responses are released all of a sudden the world opens up and so many nice things happen.

A recent example was a lovely 16 year old boy whose mother brought for help to relieve his flying anxiety, prior to a school trip. It took three sessions to deal with his issues. He not only had a great trip but the anxiety he had experienced at exam time was also gone.  He is very happy with the outcome, more relaxed, more self confident, and his mother has commented on his new maturity. It has been a good result for the whole family.

Perhaps you know of someone who feels anxious in some way? Please suggest they seek help. Life is too short to waste in worry, fear and tightness. If anyone wants to know more do visit my website and check out the stress and anxiety page and then call for a chat. Maybe I can help.
