Weight loss – getting it right

Last month I mentioned how our life is like a road, we have to get on the right one or we end up someplace else.

For the likes of people who are carrying excess fat, unless they are doing something about it, they are on the road to Fatter and to More Miserable which lead to Diabetes, Heart disease, and to Illness.

This seems a bit defeatist but it is proven to them daily by the way they eat in secret, eat too much, and always go on diets. “Oh, that one worked, I lost 5 stone”, I hear people say when they come. But they have put it all back on, so how did it work? There must have been something wrong.

There is one consolation about diets, people at least get a taste of how good it feels to have energy, and a waist, and wear off-the-shelf clothes. They loved it but why did it all go back on? Did they not kick their bad eating habits?  Did they not continue exercising? Weren’t they strong enough to withstand a blip?

I have been dealing with weight issues for some years now, completely naturally. Half a stone a month is great to keep it off permanently, so for 5 stone that may well be almost a year. It is the first 3 months that counts. Once you get in the zone and put things in perspective it all becomes second nature. Using hypnotherapy and EFT (emotional freedom technique) I start people thinking positively, we look at what they eat, when, and why. After a couple of consultations they say things like ‘I wasn’t even thinking about it and I left food on my plate’ or ‘It was bizzare, I only ate one!’

For weight loss you have to deal with the triggers that make you eat. Perhaps it is loneliness, difficult kids, the inability to cope, lack of confidence, a void, or something from the past that is hidden deep and the fat is protecting it so wont go away. These have to be dealt with. Diets don’t address these issues. And, it is no use thinking no one understands you. When people come I make it my business to.

Of course, to lose weight you need to have a positive attitude, awareness of what and how much is going in your mouth, and also some exercise to tone the muscles to take up the slack when the fat leaves. This is all part of my job.

If you are obese get a thorough medical check, and include thyroid, candida, and, in women, fibroids.  I am sure your doctor will think of other things too, and call me for a chat.

Word pictures on weight

My favourate copywriter, Doug Jenner, from Best Words, has this to say.

So here goes,  this is my word picture to you

The other night I saw a programme on TV about obese people.  One particular lady was so enormous (I think she was 33 stone) she actually allowed the TV cameras into her home to show how you can jeopardise your life if you let the calories take over and just eat and eat.   She was showing us how she lives and graffically saying please don’t ever get like this.

She has so many rolls of fat that the last huge stomach roll rested on the mid part of her upper legs. She could not walk, she could not sit properly, nor lie comfortably.

It showed her husband helping to shower her.  She was sitting and he was carefully lifting up every roll of fat to wash in the creases underneath.  She said they have to do this daily because it gets red, sore,  extremely smelly, and infected very quickly if they don’t.  They started under her great saggy boobs, then moved down lifting every heavy, white, revoltingly globby roll to wash under each. There were at least 5 different rolls of fat altogether.   It looked gross.

She was in tears as she told how she had not been able to see her grandchildren because she cannot travel.  Not only is it too difficult but she is very susceptable to infections and, also,  it would put too much strain on her vital organs.  She has already had frightening heart problems.

This woman was four times my size, one of me in her legs, one of me around her stomach, one of me around her chest and one of me in her arms and head!

I really admire her for letting everyone see her naked and hear her story. I also hope it inspires those heading towards obesity to stop and turn around.

Some stats on weight

Did you realise that more than 46% of men and 32% of women are overweight in England?  And, on top of that 17% men and 21% women are obese.  The majority of obese people are over 55.  Obesity has doubled since the mid 1980s. (2008 figures)

We are talking here of 28million men and 20 million women in England alone!

And what about the kids? Sadly there are around 1 in 4, 11 to 15 year olds, considered obese.

While you may not consider yourself  obese, or even overweight, the fact is you are probably one of more than 50% of the population that worries about your weight, is on some diet, and has self esteem issues associated with the way you look.

This is a huge issue world wide.  Our lifestyles and routines do influence our emotions. Our emotions influence the way we eat and perform.  We can spiral out of control so easily and it self perpetuates.

Not good!

Well, there’s plenty of work for all the people who sell products and help with weight loss.  But, finding something that works for you may involve years, even a lifetime, of trial and error, and certainly money.
